WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING ?

Cloud computing can be called as a method in which various types of services are offered to a user using the internet. cloud computing includes services like providing users with storage space which they can access from anywhere using the internet. Other services of the cloud computing include providing servers, databases and software.

The main advantage of this is that the user has to no longer carry a huge storage device for all his data as he can access it over the internet. As long as a device has a internet connection the data can be extracted, uploaded or used.

Though it is fairly new yet it has become a popular option for data storage among businessmen as it saves the costs for data storage and increases productivity and mobility.

TYPES OF CLOUD SERVICE

One might think that cloud computing is limited only to online data storage though it is not the case. Other types of functions that a cloud computing service offers its users with include:-

·        E-mail
·        Online storage
·        Backup and data retrieval
·        Audio and video streaming
·        Creating, testing and delivering software.

In spite of being new cloud computing is used in many business and different organizations and even individual customers.

CLOUD SERVICE PROVIDERS

Though there might be hundreds of cloud service providers on the internet yet there are only a handful which rule the market and are the giants of this field.

·        Google cloud
·        Amazon web services
·        Microsoft azure
·        aliyun
·        IBM cloud service
·        Oracle

A report forecasts that the largest public cloud providers will grow even larger in 2019, while enterprise spending will surge. The six largest hyperscale cloud leaders — Alibaba, Amazon Web Services [AWS], Google, IBM, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle — will all grow larger.

IMPACT ON STARTUPS

Today’s startup ecosystem, consumers and businesses of all kinds owe a big debt to the cloud. If you think about today’s most popular apps and services, such as Uber, Waze, Spotify or even Pokémon GO, they each require the cloud to make them work.
Take Uber as an example. It uses geolocation, maps, SMS messaging and payments, all of which require a cloud connection to function properly and allow the user to request a ride, the driver to find the person, for the two parties to communicate if needed and facilitate payment. Without the cloud, it would have been prohibitively expensive for a startup to build an app with this mix of complex functions, and have the computing resources to pull it off.
The cloud provides an unprecedented level of access that we take for granted today, but simply wasn’t financially or logistically realistic before it came along. Today, with the swipe of a credit card (or even for free in many cases), we have access to virtually any type of software, endless compute resources and a vast array of programming tools — and we owe it all to cloud technologies.

Cloud models according privacy

The fact that the information handled temporarily or permanently resides on servers in the cloud leads to different formats such services offer privacy that users can choose. Therefore several cloud models as spaces for development of the services offered arise. Would:
Public clouds
User’s access shared services so without a comprehensive control over the location of the information that resides on the provider’s servers. The fact whether public is not synonymous with unsafe.
Private clouds
For customers who require their information to be private and be exclusively accessible by them.
Hybrid clouds
Combine features of the two previous ones, so that part of the service can be offered privately (eg infrastructure) and another part on a shared basis (eg development tools).
